The HOPE Philippines Project
The Challenge
HIV causes a significant economic and health burden, and investing in strategies to protect people from acquiring HIV will save governments the significant costs of managing a lifelong illness. The Asia-Pacific region is home to nearly 6 million people living with HIV, with approximately 300,000 new infections reported in 2019.
Project Objectives
HOPE Philippines is implemented by The Foundation for the Advancement of Clinical Epidemiology, Inc. (FACE, Inc) with support from the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD).
HOPE stands for ending HIV transmission by Optimizing Pre-exposure prophylaxis in East Asia. The project’s main goal is to build a network of stakeholders that will promote the wider use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as a vital part of the available resources for preventing and controlling HIV and AIDS. Read more about the HOPE global project.
For HOPE Philippines, the objective is to upscale PrEP services in the Philippines through the identification and evaluation of community–designed PrEP interventions and capacity-building on PrEP among selected healthcare providers in the cities of Mandaluyong, Calamba, and Iloilo.
HOPE Philippines has partnered with 3 PrEP clinics, namely, the LoveYourself Clinic in Mandaluyong City, the Rajah Community Center by Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP) in Iloilo City, and the Sustained Health Initiatives of the Philippines (SHIP) in Calamba City.
